On 2 Jul 2025, a powerful explosion occurred on the premises of a neighbouring business near the village of Berezyna in the Zhytomyr region. The shockwave damaged two of our client’s petrol stations, situated on either side of the Kyiv–Chop motorway. The premises, stained‑glass windows, fittings, utilities and stock were damaged.
It would seem that in such a situation, everything is clear‑cut. However, at the start of the claims settlement process, questions arose regarding the interpretation of the contract terms and the classification of the incident itself – and the future payout depended on this assessment.
Following an analysis of the contract and discussions with the insurer, the incident was recognised as an insured event. Next came working with experts, assessing the damage, making calculations and confirming the loss.
As a result, the client received 6,581,742.72 UAH in insurance compensation, which covered the costs of restoring the damaged property.
This story illustrates that even an insurance claim that seems obvious at first glance can present its own complexities. The key is to overcome these challenges and achieve the outcome the client expected when taking out the insurance policy.
